Starting a Youtube channel with the kids
Like most kids growing up in this technical age, my kids love watching youtube. Of course as a parent I’m always concerned about what my kids are exposed to on the internet. So naturally I watch all the channels they watch and keep their Youtube access to the Youtube Kids app. With the Youtube kids app I’m able to put on specific restrictions.
Of course after some time both my girls want to be the ones making the videos! So I did quite a bit of research and set it up for them! Common Sense Media has a great article on guidelines to consider when letting your kids have a youtube channel.
All you need to start is to sign up with youtube and using your smart phone you can start making videos and uploading them to youtube. Here’s a step by step on how to do this as well.
In order to make sure my kids are safe, I edit the videos and monitor any comments on the channel.
But I let the kids plan the videos and choose what they want to do. They go through phases of doing toy videos, video games, and some vlogging about them just being silly! My 8yr old loves it and she’s so proud of being a ‘youtuber’.I love that it’s a way for my girls to express themselvesĀ in such a creative way. It’s also such a fun activity to work on as a family.
